Chelsea sign Ross Barkley from Everton for £15m
Chelsea have completed the signing of Ross Barkley their first signing of the January transfer window.
The signing of Ross Barkely was imminent after prolonged speculation and after Everton Boss had said the player was always gonna leave as it was a decision the club had made even before his appointment.
The 24 year old whose contract expires in the summer has been out for a long while due to a hamstring injury that required surgery. He has yet to feature in a game this season due to the injury but has resumed training according to Sam Allardyce.
Barkely’s transfer to Chelsea should have happened in the summer but the player needed more time to consider the deal and recover from his injury- a decision which has favoured Chelsea as he has now signed for a considerably lesser amount of 15 million pounds as opposed to 30 million pounds in the summer,
The former Evertonian, who has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal, told Chelsea’s website: “I’m overwhelmed, I’m looking forward to it and I’m really excited to get started. To be given a fresh start at a new club like Chelsea, it’s unbelievable for me. I’m looking forward to continuing where I left off at the end of last season and hoping to improve and add more goals to my game.”
The England international who made 15o league appearance for Everton is not expected to go straight into contention to play for Chelsea as his new boss warned, “Don’t forget he had a bad injury, he had surgery,” Conte said. “This player has not played in seven months … We must have great patience. We have to hope to recover him very quickly, to try to help us for the rest of the season.”
With the acquisition of Barkely it remains to be seen where he will play for the blues who already have 4 senior midfielders in Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko and Drinkwater.
